I had a disscussion with my supervisor about my project idea and where it is so far. I have decided to alter it a bit to have a more scientific investigation approach, unlike the previous years.
Today I will be looking at different journals and how the flow rate correlates to the larval stage and succession rates of the larvae onto the panels.
Today I presented my proposed idea of my project across 4 members of staff and my classmates. It was a 5minutes powerpoint presentation that included the main aspects of my changed project idea on Settlement Recruitment of Sessile Organisms onto Artificial Substrata suspended in water column within Fal Estuary.
Click here to watch video: My initial idea of my project was to carry on with the panel project from previous students who used polypropylene for the panel material to find out the abudance of native and non-native species that settled on it in a given period of time, then compare my data and results to the previous ones but then changed my mind to make it more interesting.
I will now be investigating the abudance of non-native and native species on 4 different panel materials, to find out whether the change in different panel material affects the abundance of the species settlement. I will carry out this investigations in 2 stages; the first stage set up of the panel will occur in mid October to early January for a trial run, which will still be recorded and mentioned in my final conclusion and the second stage will be to set up a new set of panels in same location after the first set is out. This way I can note down improvements to be made for the second stage. |
